Children's Choir
The Children's Choir at Blue Ridge Bible Church is a dynamic way for children to praise and worship God through music. With multiple performance opportunities throughout the school year--including specials in the worship service, musical dramas, and performances at outreach events--children are able to take an active part in the ministries and outreach of the church. At Blue Ridge, we celebrate the fact that the Lord has ordained the lips of children and infants to give Him praise! (see Psalm 8:2; Matt. 21:16)
Eligibility
Children between the ages of 7 and 13 as of January 1, 2009 are eligible to participate in choir. No previous musical experience is necessary.
Cost
There will be a small charge for the music this year. For the fall quarter, each family will be required to buy a $5 CD that you will get to keep. Additional music charges (less than $10 per family) may be added for the second half of the year depending on what music is selected. You may also be asked to buy a red long-sleeved t-shirt for performances, which cost $10 / shirt. If you have your shirt from last year, you will not have to buy another shirt.
Schedule
The choir rehearses every Wednesday night from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. from September through May. We rehearse at the church, downstairs in the quad room. For safety reasons, parents should come inside the building to pick up their children. We will not release them from the room without a responsible person to pick them up. Senior Choir
The Senior Choir is a special division of the Children's Choir that is open to children between the ages of 10 and 13 as of January 1, 2009. The Senior Choir rehearses every Wednesday night from 8:00 - 8:30 p.m. (immediately following regular rehearsal). This choir focuses on more challenging pieces and is perfect for children who love music and are interested in taking their talents to the next level. No experience necessary.
Theme for 2008-2009
The theme for this year is The Sacrifice of Praise. Our theme verse is Hebrews 13:15: "Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise--the fruit of lips that confess his name."

Children’s Choir rehearsals resume this Wednesday, January 7 from 7pm - 8pm. We will be working on a mini-musical entitled “Heaven’s Kitchen.” It’s a musical about praising God no matter the circumstances and includes four very fun songs–my kids can’t stop singing them! We will be using a CD and book to learn this musical. The book has been purchased by the church, but the CD will need to be purchased by each family in order to take one home. The CD is $5. You will only need 1 per family, and you get to keep the CD. There are actually 3 mini-musicals on this CD that we will be using in the coming months.

Auditions for a child’s solo available in the upcoming Christmas play will be held next Wednesday, November 5, from 6:30 - 7:00 p.m. in the choir room before regular choir rehearsal begins. The solo is in the song “Son of God”, and everyone who is interested in auditioning should have already received the written music to take home. Here are some recordings of the BRBC Children’s Choir performance at church on October 19. The choir did a fantastic job! The song that the seniors sang, “Come, Christians, Join to Sing” was arranged for them by Christy Shipe (original lyrics: Christian H. Bateman; traditional Spanish melody; new lyrics & melody: Christy Shipe) and the accompaniment track was performed and recorded by Tom Gossage and Christy Shipe. Thanks to all who worked to make this song a unique performance at Blue Ridge Bible Church!
The song that the whole choir sang, “By Faith,” was written by Dan Whittemore, arranged by Joseph Linn, and published by Lillenas Publishing, Co. Special thanks to Katie Gicker for live accompaniment on piano!

Our next performance is coming up on October 19! The entire choir will be performing “By Faith” and the Sr. Choir will be performing “Come, Christians, Join to Sing.” An mp3 of the Sr. Choir song is now posted on the church website so that the kids can listen to it and practice along. I hope it’s helpful!

The 2008-2009 choir season is shaping up to be a very exciting year! We already have three very special events lined up for the fall: a performance at the Emancipation Day Celebration on September 20, a mini-musical in October, and the Christmas Play put on by the church in honor of the Town of Purcellville’s Centennial celebration. In addition to these special events, we will continue to perform in the worship service. Because our first performance is just around the corner, choir rehearsals will begin on Wednesday, August 27 from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m
