Clothing Exchange

Posted on 08/27/2011 by Rich Shipe

Our annual clothing exchange is October 9 through 15! These dates immediately follow the enormous Purcellville Town Wide Tag Sale. If you are interested in distributing business cards at the garage sales you attend with information about our clothing exchange, cards will be available on Sunday, October 2nd in the foyer. Take this as an opportunity to be a witness for Christ as you garage sale and help our neighbors know of this special way donate their clothes to the community.

What is the Annual Clothing Exchange, you ask?

Basically, this exchange is an opportunity to clothe our church family and bless one another by sharing those items which we no longer need with someone who does. So, want to get rid of those clothes your kids have outgrown? Or are you in need of winter coats for your kids? We accept all sizes of gently used clothes, linens, books and baby necessities.

On Saturday morning, as advertised throughout our community, the doors are open for anyone to come in and take what they need. This is a well known opportunity in our area, and people line up long before the doors open. Anything left at Saturday noon is taken to local ministries or thrift stores.

The hours for drop-off and volunteering are:

Sunday, October 9: stack auditorium chairs & set up tables, 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Monday-Thursday, October 10-14: 9:00 to 1:00 p.m., drop-off, volunteering & shopping

Wednesday & Friday evenings, October 12 & 14: Shopping hours only (no drop-off), 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Saturday, October 15: 9:00 to Noon for the community to “shop”

Volunteer needs –

  • Help is needed during the above hours to sort and distribute the clothing on tables throughout the auditorium.
  • Everyone who drops off clothes is asked to distribute their clothes into the proper categories before shopping.
  • On Saturday, we are looking for outreach-minded volunteers who are interested being available to visit with the over 100+ folks coming through our doors seeking to have their basic clothing needs met. What a great opportunity to shine the love of Christ to them and possibly having their spiritual needs met too! Please pray about your involvement and let us know if you are interested in helping in this way.

If you have any further questions or wish to volunteer, please contact Geni Hall ([email protected]) or Courtney Shipe ([email protected]).
